How to Register for a Band Class

1. Prior musical experience is expected to join the Grimsley Band (example: middle school band or private lessons)

2. When you fill out your registration page for the counselors, you should select "Honors Band Proficient" on your registration sheet.  This gets you registered for the Grimsley HS Band class.

3. You can also find audition information for wind ensemble and jazz ensemble in the link below.  If you audition for an advanced class, we will adjust what class you are in based on that audition.  An audition is not required to join the Grimsley Band, but is required to register for the advanced classes (Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble).

Grimsley Band Audition

1. Rising 9th graders, click this link Rising 9th Grade Audition Sign-up

2. Current High School students will sign up posted on the band room door.

3. If time slots are full or you have a conflict that you can not rearrange for the audition, please email Mr. Ray at rayj2@gcsnc.com to schedule an audition time.

5. Jazz Ensemble Audition Material (click this link, Jazz Audition Material 2025-26)

   1. Requirements - Click the link above and select your instrument.  Using the backing track, there are three sections.

   2. During the first section (1st time through the track), you will play the solo page over the backing track.

   3. During the second section (2nd time through the track), you will play the etude over the backing track.

   4. During the third section (3rd time through the track), you will improvise over the backing track.
